Tukkiniemi is one of the rare places in Repovesi that was saved during the old times of extensive logging. This beautiful peninsula has maintained in its natural state greatly thanks to local forest technician who decided protect the area as an important habitat for local flora and fauna.
After the Repovesi National Park was founded, a campfire place was built on Tukkiniemi. This served well all hikers and canoers quite a long time but it was extremely difficult to maintain. This led to decision of dismantling and nowadays it is mainly used by people with kettles and tents.
